Frequently Asked Questions

How much does session cost?

Individuals: $105/hour

Couples: $125/hour

Finances can be a sensitive issue. Some clients prefer to attend counseling every other week instead of weekly to be able to continue prioritizing their mental health needs rather than ending their counseling journey altogether. I am happy to work with you on frequency of sessions to maintain financial health as well as mental health. More information about sliding scales is provided below.

What is your cancellation policy?

I have reserved your appointment time specifically for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please contact me during business hours and at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment to avoid paying a late cancellation fee. For Monday appointments, you must cancel by 12:00 p.m. on the previous Friday so I can offer that time to another client.

If you do not show up for your appointment with no prior communication then your card will be charged a no-show fee.

Your late cancellation/no-show charge will be your established session rate.

Sessions cancelled at least 24 hours before your appointment time are not charged any fees.

Do you accept insurance?

At this time, insurance is not currently accepted. One reason being for enhanced client care. Sometimes insurances only decide to treat for certain diagnoses and for a limited period of time. Due to this, sometimes people end up with surprise bills from their insurance company impacting finances and treatment.

While I don't accept insurance, I do provide super bills at your request to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. It is up to your insurance provider if they will reimburse you and New Summits Counseling, PLLC has no sway in the matter.

Additionally, to help access our services I work with Mentaya, a platform that helps clients get money back on out-of-network therapy sessions. If you have out-of-network benefits, Mentaya will file claims and handle the insurance paperwork for you. They charge a 5% fee per claim. It's completely optional to sign up for their services, and as your therapist I do not benefit in any way from your participation.

You can requests superbills from me without use of Mentaya.

How many sessions will I need?

For individuals: There is no magic number. Some clients will respond quicker to treatment than others. You may see statistics online quoting specific percentages of clients and session amounts. However, per a meta-analysis published in 2019, time frame studies were mainly conducted in the 1970s and 1980s in a limited setting. More conclusive research is needed for a truer representation of your typical therapeutic setting.

What we can tell you is research shows the most important factor in therapy outcomes in your control is your relationship with your counselor, so prioritize in finding a counselor you click with. This accounts for as much as treatment approach and your expectations put together! Additionally, we have the shared goal of you feeling better and making sure counseling is effective. I will always welcome you back when life hits hard again but I'm not trying to make you a permanent client.

For couples/parenting: Prepare/Enrich is at least 9 sessions including the intake. I have found that to complete the program in only 8 sessions (the intake is prior to the assessment), clients need to be committed to having in-depth conversations prompted by Prepare/Enrich outside of sessions. Additionally, I think some topics like conflict resolution are best covered in two sessions. I recommend planning for at least 10 sessions total. There is a lot to process and learn! Some couples prefer extra sessions and some do not. I will accommodate either to the best of my ability.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots. My sliding scale spots are all currently booked.

If you do not wish to be added to a wait list, I recommend looking at Open Path Psychotherapy Collective for therapists who are currently available for sliding scale spots.
